Let’s be real for a second.
As a woman who juggles the weight of leadership, career ambition, and personal life, “overwhelmed” isn’t just a feeling.
It’s a permanent resident in your brain.
You wake up, and before your feet even hit the floor, your mind is already running a marathon.
Emails. Deadlines. Curriculum changes. Family needs.
It’s like having 50 browser tabs open, and three of them are playing music, but you can’t find which ones. 🎶
I’ve been there—as a academician and an entrepreneur, I know the physical toll that “mental noise” takes on your heart rate and your peace.
But what if I told you that the exit ramp from that chaos is sitting on your nightstand?
It’s your journal. ✍️
The Power of the 10-Minute Brain Dump as a Form of Self-Care for Women
You might think you don’t have time to journal.
You’re thinking, “I can barely find time to sleep 6 hours, let alone write in a notebook.”
But here is the truth: You don’t have time not to.
When we don’t write things down, our brain has to use “RAM” to keep those thoughts active.
That is why you feel exhausted even when you haven’t been physically active.
Writing everything down—almost every single day—is my secret weapon for staying sane.
It’s a practice backed by science, a proven and effective self-care for women that is often referred to as expressive writing.
According to the American Psychological Association, journaling can actually strengthen immune cells and reduce the impact of stressors.
The “Morning Pages” Ritual ☀️
I am a huge advocate for what Julia Cameron calls Morning Pages.
It’s a stream-of-consciousness writing practice that clears the “drain” of your mind.
You don’t need to be a poet.
You don’t need to be a “writer.”
You just need to be honest.
When I started doing this, I realized how much of my “hustle” was fueled by anxiety rather than alignment.
I was chasing goals that didn’t even belong to me.
Journaling helped me reclaim my voice.
How to Journal When You’re “Too Busy” (The 10-Minute Rule) ⏳
If the thought of a blank page scares you, follow this simple framework on self-care for women through journaling:
- Minutes 1-3: The Brain Dump. Write down every single “to-do” and worry currently taking up space. No order. Just get it out.
- Minutes 4-7: The Feeling Check. How does your body feel right now? Is your heart racing? Are your shoulders tight?
- Minutes 8-10: The Soul Feed. Write down one truth, one Bible verse, or one quote that makes you feel steady.
By the end of those 10 minutes, you aren’t just a “busy” woman.
You are a woman with a plan. 📋

The Strategy of Alignment 🕊️
In my journey at Her Healthy Hustles, I’ve realized that we can’t manage what we don’t monitor.
If you don’t monitor your thoughts, your thoughts will manage you.
This is why I am so passionate about the concept of Alignment.
Alignment is when your daily actions match your soul’s values.
It’s moving away from the “abnormal heart rate” of constant stress and toward a rhythmic, healthy hustle.

The Final Word: Grace Over Perfection 💖
Don’t feel like you have to be “perfect” at this.
Some days, your journal entry might just be three words: “I am tired.”
That’s okay.
The goal isn’t to be a perfect writer; the goal is to be a present woman.
Be present with your thoughts.
Be present with your body.
And most importantly, be present with the purpose God has placed on your life.
Let’s trade the burnout for bliss, one page at a time.
