Finding the perfect rhythm for your healthy hustle isn’t always about the grand gestures; sometimes, it’s just about putting one foot in front of the other. You’ve seen the videos of the “aesthetic” girls who make 10,000 steps look like a breeze, but as a busy academician and entrepreneur, I know the reality is often much different. While Her Healthy Hustles is built on the foundation of ambition and wellness, I’ll be the first to admit that some days, 6,000 steps feels like a marathon.
Let’s be honest.
You’ve seen the videos.
The “aesthetic” girls in their matching sets, holding a green juice, strolling through a sun-drenched park without a single bead of sweat on their foreheads.
They make 10,000 steps look like a breeze.
But here I am.
I’m an academician and a woman trying to build a digital empire with Her Healthy Hustles.
And sometimes?
6,000 steps feels like climbing Mount Everest.
The Confession of a 6k-Stepper 👟
I’ve read the research.
I’ve watched the health gurus.
I am 100% convinced that walking is the “magic pill” for women’s health.
It lowers blood pressure. It stabilizes the heart rate. It clears the mental fog of a long day in university administration.
But then, 5:00 PM hits.
I leave the office after a day of thesis advising and curriculum meetings.
My brain is fried. My legs feel like lead.
The goal is 10k.
But by step 4,000, I’m checking my watch.
By step 6,000, I am exhausted.
And I’ll be totally vulnerable with you:
Sometimes, I look out the window, see a dark cloud, and think, “Thank God, it’s going to rain.”
It’s my hall pass. My excuse to skip. 🌧️
The Shadow of Greatness (Hi, Papa!) ☀️
I look at my Papa and I am in awe.
Every single morning, at 5:00 AM, he is out there.
Consistency is his middle name.
When I’m back home, I try to keep up. I walk with him.
But here in the city, the rhythm is different. 🏙️
The streets feel lonelier.
My partner is off on his badminton trips—and while I love the game, I’m not exactly at the competitive level yet!
So, I’m left with my own two feet.
Me.
My Strava app.
And the hilarious realization that my Strava sends me more “encouraging prompts” than I actually give it “activity logs.” 📱
But then the rain stops, the evening settles in, and the regret hits.
I know I missed that “soul-feed” moment that only happens when you’re moving.
Why Walking Matters for the “Healthy Hustler” 🔋
So, why am I writing this?
Because I’m challenging myself to start again.
And I want you to join me—not the “perfect” version of me, but the real one.
Here is why we, as ambitious women, need to lace up our sneakers:
- It’s Low-Cost, High-Impact. You don’t need a fancy gym membership or a competitive spirit. Just a pair of shoes.
- The Perfect Yoga Companion. I love my yoga practice. It keeps me flexible and grounded. Walking is the perfect “active recovery” that fits into that same peaceful vibe.
- Mental De-cluttering. As academicians and leaders, our brains never stop. Walking is like “Morning Pages” for your feet. It lets the thoughts settle.
- Heart Health. After my own health scares with an abnormal heart rate, I realized walking isn’t just about fitness; it’s about longevity.
The Strategy of “Small Wins” 🎯
If 10k steps feels like a lie today, that’s okay.
Maybe today is a 4k day.
Maybe it’s a “walk to the cafe to read my Kindle” day.
The goal of Her Healthy Hustles is “Ambition without the Burnout.”
If we push ourselves to 10k until we hate the very sight of our sneakers, we’ve lost the plot.
We walk because we love our bodies, not because we’re punishing them for not being “fit enough.”
Let’s Do This Together 🤝
I am reinstalling my commitment.
I am looking at those Strava prompts as invitations, not guilt-trips.
I am saluting Papa’s 5:00 AM discipline, but I’m also giving myself grace for my 5:00 PM exhaustion.
Will you join me?
Let’s start walking again.
One step.
One breath.
One (imperfect) journey at a time. 🌸
