If you are an ambitious woman running a healthy hustle, I want to share a painful truth I learned the hard way.
For years, I wore my exhaustion like a trophy. I was so proud of sleeping only three hours, treating it like a badge of honor that proved I was the hardest working person in the room. I genuinely believed that sacrificing sleep was the price of ambition and the necessary fuel for my productivity. I thought resting meant I was weak or lacked commitment. My younger self was convinced that to truly succeed, you had to be perpetually “on.”
The Health Toll: My Body Sent a Memo
But that unsustainable lifestyle came with a heavy, non-negotiable price tag.
My body eventually sent me a devastating memo. The constant stress and sleep deprivation took a serious toll on my health. I started struggling with significant weight gain, which I couldn’t seem to control, and, far more concerning, I developed an abnormal heart rate and wildly unstable blood pressure. 💔
It was terrifying. I was chasing success, but I was sacrificing my very foundation for it. That health scare forced me to stop and reflect on what true “empowerment” actually looks like. I realized I was confusing activity with productivity. I might have been spending more hours working, but the quality of that work—my focus, my creativity, my energy—was rapidly diminishing.
Wisdom for My Younger Self
If only I could turn back time and talk to my younger self! I would look her in the eye and tell her to put the phone down, close the laptop, and rest. I would tell her that true dedication isn’t measured by hours awake; it’s measured by the impact you make when you are awake.
Now, I understand that rest is not a luxury; it is the most strategic move any ambitious woman can make.
Rest is the Foundation of True Productivity
Rest is the foundation that keeps our energy stable, our minds sharp, and our bodies healthy enough to withstand the demands of our dreams. It’s what allows us to regenerate, recalibrate our focus, and come back to our work with sustained, high-level productivity. It’s essential for any woman who wants to stay productive and sane.
My new badge of honor is recognizing when it’s time to pause. I now schedule downtime as seriously as I schedule client meetings. Resting is not quitting; it’s building the stamina required for the long, beautiful race of an empowered life. 💖
