I am a professional academician. I have spent years mastering complex theories, managing curriculum, and advising students. I can analyze data for hours. But apparently, I cannot outsmart my own snooze button. This post is about Self-Care for Women: The Expectation vs Reality.
Letโs talk about my most recent “desperate move” for self-care for women.
I had a plan. A brilliant, strategic, fail-proof plan. To ensure I actually went to the gym, I decided to wear my workout outfit to bed. I thought, โWhen I wake up, Iโll already be ready! There is no excuse!โ ๐ง โจ
The Reality: I didnโt wake up like a fitness influencer. I woke up feeling like a very compressed burrito. ๐ฏ
I spent the entire night “working out” in my dreams, but in reality, I just gave my high-compression leggings a tour of my bedsheets. By the time my alarm went off, my mood said, “Absolutely not.” Instead of hitting the treadmill, I performed a high-speed transformation directly into my professional work outfit.
My gym clothes didn’t see a single squat. They just saw eight hours of REM sleep. ๐
Why We Struggle (And Why Itโs Okay) ๐คทโโ๏ธ
As someone who advocates for self-care for women in leadership, I have to be honest. My path to balance is not a straight line. It is a zig-zag. Sometimes it is a circle that leads back to the kitchen for snacks.
- The Instagram Trap: I spend thirty minutes scrolling for yoga inspiration. By the time I find the perfect “peaceful” video, my window of time is gone. ๐ฑ
- The Mood Dictatorship: I make a “To-Do” list, but my mood is the one holding the gavel. If the mood says “sedentary,” the list is just a suggestion. ๐ฉโโ๏ธ
- The Cycle Struggle: I try to be a health icon. Then my menstrual cycle arrives, and I would trade my academic degrees for a box of glazed donuts. ๐ฉ
The Lesson (If There Is One) ๐ on Self-Care for Women: The Expectation vs Reality
Self-care for women isn’t about being perfect. Itโs about being persistent.
I am with you in this journey of “Her Healthy Hustles.” We are ambitious. We are busy. We are sedentary because our work demands it. And sometimes, we are just tired.
If you also used your sports bra as a nightgown last night, don’t worry. Youโre not failing. Youโre just an academician in need of a rest day. Weโll try again tomorrow. Or the day after. Or whenever the mood allows. ๐ฅ
